NOAA MODIS NRT CONUS (Continental US) IMAGESUpdated March 12, 2006
These images are produced by NOAA in near real time (NRT). These images are produced by extracting bands 1, 3 & 4 from the MODIS data. These bands are for the spectral colors red, blue and green (respectively) and produce true color imagery. Each data set is called a granule. NOAA recieves data from EDOS, and then divides it into 5 minute granules for faster processing. These granules can be visually viewed as the squared areas on the images. Areas that are black or light blue indicate where NOAA did not recieve data from EDOS. Since NOAA is processing the data in NRT (the deadline is one hour of processing), there is insufficient time (at this date) to bit check for bad data. Overlayed on each images are blue, green, and red squares. Each square represents the location of a possible fire. Blue indicates a low probability of fire, Green indicates medium probability, and Red indicates high probability. February 2006
