The purpose of the NOAA MODIS project is to design and provide the National Weather Service (NWS) with near-real-time MODIS weather products for the continental USA AM1 Satellite, continental USA PM1 Satellite, Alaska, and Hawaii.

The raw MODIS data is acquired from the Earth Observing System (EOS) AM-1 Satellite Terra, and PM-1 Satellite Aqua.
