Fire
|
Product is made from a combination of POES/AVHRR, GOES/Imager, Meteosat/MVIRI, and MTSAT-1R for detection of fires. The data is used to calculate ground temperature and albedo, from which fire spots may be identified by use of a thresholding algorithm. The output from the analysis is a printout of the position and size of the fire spot, together with imagery showing the burning and burn-out areas, smoke, etc. Forest and grassland maps are then used to identify the nature of the ground cover where the fire is located.

Tropical Cyclones

Volcanoes

Product is made from a combination of POES/AVHRR, GOES/Imager, Meteosat/MVIRI, and MTSAT for detecting volcanic eruptions and tracking and analyzing the horizontal extent of volcanic ash clouds. Data from channels 3-5 can give information on plume temperatures and detect "hot spots" at the eruption site.
