Operational Products
Global Vegetation Index
|
Product shows the Normalized Density Vegetation Index (NDVI). It is a calculation of the differences between AVHRR channels 1 and 2. NDVI is the basic index for measuring the "greenness" of the earth's surface. An estimation of the density and coverage of green vegetation can be determined by measuring how green the earth's surface is. The GVI2 product uses the pre-launch calibration data, while the GVI3 uses the post-launch satellite calibration data.
Fractional Vegetation Index is displayed as a fraction or a percentage if the fractional vegetation values are multiplied by 100%. It is derived from the AVHRR for the CONUS. Product Links: |

Global Vegetation Processing System (GVPS)
|
Product shows weekly composite vegetation and drought monitoring indices. The primary products are Smoothed NDVI and Green Vegetation Fraction (GVF). The drought monitoring indices are the secondary products, which include Vegetation Condition Index; Temperature Condition Index and Vegetation-Temperature Index. These products are composite over 7-day period to minimize the cloud contamination and reduce the atmospheric effects.

MetOp Global Vegetation Index
|
Metop Global Vegetation Index (MGVI) products are used for monitoring the density and vigor of green vegetation. Useful applications of GVI products include classifying land cover, estimating crop acreage, and detecting plant stress. The weekly composite Global Vegetation Index (GVI) is derived from MetOp AVHRR global 1km FRAC data. When daily map is created, the most nadir pixel is selected. Weekly composite product is created from daily maps of 7 days on pixel basis by selecting the data of the day with Maximum NDVI.
